Recently, I had the chance to collaborate with a fellow photographer, and it turned into one of the most enjoyable sessions I've had in a while.
This particular photoshoot took place in Dodd City, Texas—a small town with a big heart and wide open skies.
We started the session at sunset, when the sky comes alive with warm, golden hues. I love the contrast that an elegant dress against a rough and natural landscape looks. Add in a cowboy hat, boots, a little bit of jewelry to accessorize, and her stunning horse, Tinman, and we had the perfect setup for a Texas sunset session.
It’s a look that’s both modern and nostalgic, effortlessly blending fashion with the freedom of wide-open spaces.
We found the perfect spot in front of an old silo that had a rustic charm to it. The weathered textures of the structure paired with the soft glow of the setting sun created a stunning backdrop.
There’s something so authentic about working with natural light—it feels effortless, yet challenging in the best way. You have to read the scene, adjust your settings on the fly, and trust your instincts. And that’s what I love about it. The unpredictability makes every shot unique.
As the sun dipped lower on the horizon, we moved closer to the pond on the property. I wanted to use the angle of the pond bank and hill to really put a lot of sky in the image. And with a lot of sky, of course I had to capture some silhouettes too.
By the end of the session, as the sun set behind us, I felt incredibly grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with another photographer who shares the same love for horses and western fashion. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and grind of running a photography business, but working together in such a relaxed and creative environment reminded me of why I started doing this in the first place—to create freely, to capture moments that tell a story, and to celebrate the beauty of the world around us.
In the end, both of us walked away with some amazing shots and a deeper appreciation for the power of collaboration. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to swap roles, and it’s definitely something I’d love to do again in the future.
If you’re a photographer looking to collaborate with someone, I highly recommend giving it a try. There’s something exciting and truly special about working with a fellow creative who shares your vision, and the resulting images will speak for themselves.
